ABCs to Foster Care Parent Training Course:

 

The ABCs to Foster Care is our parent training course.  This is an eight session course, developed to train, support, and educate you on becoming a “Teaching Parent” As a teaching parent you will be given the skills needed to effetely nurture, support and redirect the youth placed in your home.  Experienced Parent Educators provide a curriculum which is based on theABC model and the Parent Skills Training: Teaching and Learning with Children in Care developed by People Place, Inc.

 

What you will learn and gain from the course:

  • Build upon a set of "core" postive parenting skills

  • Excercises will help you focus on yourself and your families needs

  • Focus on self-awareness and self-management to help all parents be mindful of their own attitudes and behaviors as they seek to help youth with theirs

  • Formation of deep meaningful trusting relationships with the youth

  • Ability to empathize - to accurately read and respond to a child's feeling

  • Build on effective communication

  • An understanding of the nature of true "disciple" as an internalized set of principles that guides behaviors rather than as a set of external punishment procedures
